The Luminary is proud to announce that we have been awarded a highly competitive Art Works grant of $25,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to support our international residency program and related exhibitions.
The Art Works category focuses on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, and the strengthening of communities through the arts. “The arts are for all of us, and by supporting organizations such as The Luminary, the National Endowment for the Arts is providing more opportunities for the public to engage with the arts,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu.
As co-founder James McAnally stated, “The award comes at a pivotal time in our history as we work to sustain a place for independent spaces and equitable initiatives in St. Louis’s art ecosystem, bringing in leading artists, critics and curators from around the world, supporting area artists to participate in international opportunities, and considering our role as a gathering space in our city for diverse publics. In this time of our nation’s divisive political landscape, receiving the support and commission of the National Endowment for the Arts is particularly poignant and we look forward to the next year with renewed energy.”
As essential as this funding is to our programs, we still need your support to sustain this work. In the United States, grants only account for a small percentage of operations- it is the support of individuals and small businesses that account for 71% of all nonprofit budgets nationwide.
