2013 has been a groundbreaking year for The Luminary – both physically and conceptually. We have embarked on our most ambitious project to date: transforming a 17,000 sq/ft complex on Cherokee Street into one of the region’s most dynamic spaces for contemporary culture.
Thanks to over 1,000 hours of work from dozens of volunteers, old walls came down and new ones went up. At the same time, we pushed forward with innovative projects such as the Whole City exhibition in which we distributed over 1,500 free newspapers asking residents ”what makes our city whole?” We crossed borders, sending St. Louis artist and curator Daniel McGrath to Copenhagen as a part of our new international exchange, and in turn bringing artists-in-residence from Berlin, London, Copenhagen, Detroit, Portland, Brooklyn and more to St. Louis.
As incredible as this year has been, with your support, 2014 is poised to be truly transformational. In our sixth year of operations, we will open our new space with more exhibitions, concerts and innovative initiatives than ever before.
If you share our vision to transform the creative landscape of St. Louis, please donate to The Luminary this season:
- $50 will buy a can of paint
- $100 will buy a stage light
- $250 will support an artist in residence
- $1,000 will support an international exhibition
- $5,000 will help buy a sound system
Groundbreaking work needs visionary support. Thanks to a generous individual contribution, every donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $20,000 until the end of the year, doubling the impact of your support!
