Basil Kincaid opens a new solo exhibition, Reclamation 2, in the entry gallery as a part of the ongoing collaborative Reclamation Project.
Opening Reception:
January 22nd from 7 - 10pm
For this solo exhibition, Reclamation 2, Basil Kincaid filters technological waste through the lens of Ghanaian and African American folk art practices exploring the duality of his African and American Identity.
The Reclamation Project focuses on valuing community, diversity and heritage through the transfiguration of trash into art; bringing conscious voice to how environmentalism shapes identity and community. Making all of the art from found material, the transformation and glorification of these abandoned materials comes to exemplify the potential for our transformation as humans evolving toward greater liberation.
With interest in communication and cultural identity, Reclamation 2 investigates the role of the internet in the production of culture and performance of self through the use of prepaid telecom scratch cards.
