PSA BANNERS AT THE LUMINARY

  • Local public art project PSA: returns to The Luminary with its newest collaboration, featuring newly commissioned work by Tasha Nicolé Burton. The six banner piece - titled “Today, you meet yourself” - was installed on the exterior wall of The Luminary at Cherokee and Ohio on October 20, 2024.

The installation will be displayed for 20 weeks and was made possible, in part, by funding from the Missouri Arts Council and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

The artist’s statement about the works is as follows:

When we doubt our own thoughts and feelings, this can be an act of deviance that can create

feelings of sadness, rejection, and lack of self-trust. Self-trust is an ever-evolving journey that

requires repetition and practice. This can be achieved through resilience and forgiveness.

  • Tasha Nicolé Burton is a St. Louis-based multidisciplinary artist who uses photography and other mediums to explore social issues that impact us as a collective. Her work is human-centered, providing space for new discoveries that can lead society to work better together. She hopes to generate an appreciation and respect for each other’s struggles, livelihood, agency, and spirit. She has exhibited work with The Kranzberg Arts Foundation, The Griot Museum of Black History, University of MO - St. Louis, and Wildfruit Projects. She is the recipient of The Puffin Foundation, Ltd. Grant, and the Black Women Photographers x Nikon USA Grant.

  • PSA: features text installations by St. Louis artists, writers, and poets and is organized by artists Shannon Levin and Marina Peng. Work has been displayed in various locations throughout the region, including the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, 2222 Chippewa in Marine Villa and as part of The Luminary’s billboard project launched in November 2020.
