The 45th City
The 45th City
September 8th -
November 10th, 2017
The 45th City is a project conceived by Jonathan Hanahan exploring ways of representing news through physical models, suggesting their underlying architecture as sites of framing the way we experience the world.
Opening Reception:
September 8th from 7 - 10pm
Using readily available online tools, a series of sculptures and digital representations will be made which correspond to parallel various news sources.
Fake news is a problem created by designers. It is a problem of aesthetics, not simply content or substance. Attempts to clarify the way information from any source is rendered in the walled gardens of our social media platforms have homogenized the visual representation of all content, reliable or not. The 45th City explores ways of representing news through the physicalization of its sources. Using readily available online tools, a series of sculptures and digital representations correspond to parallel real and fake news sources and allow an audience to occupy these spaces beyond their browser windows.
