The Luminary is honored to have been selected as a 2026 Frankenthaler Climate Initiative awardee, receiving support for a comprehensive energy audit, electrification feasibility study, and rooftop solar analysis of our facility.

Established by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation in collaboration with Environment & Culture Partners, the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative is a grantmaking program designed to catalyze climate action across the visual arts sector by supporting energy efficiency and clean energy projects at arts organizations nationwide.

This scoping grant will allow The Luminary to assess our building systems, evaluate opportunities for renewable energy and high-efficiency upgrades, and develop a phased capital roadmap to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. The resulting study will position the organization for future implementation-phase investments in electrification, rooftop solar, and other long-term sustainability improvements.

As The Luminary continues to support artists, cultural workers, and communities in St. Louis and beyond, this project represents an important step toward aligning our physical infrastructure with our broader commitments to ecological responsibility, institutional resilience, and collective futures.

We are deeply grateful to the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation and Environment & Culture Partners for their leadership in advancing climate action within the arts.

The Luminary's Energy & Electrification Master Plan is made possible in part by the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative of the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation.
