In this talk, artist Sophia Hatzikos will offer insight into artist residencies and how they can support the development of an artistic practice. The session will begin with an overview of what residencies are and how to approach the application process, including strategies for presenting your work and articulating your goals.
The discussion will evolve into an open dialogue shaped by participants’ questions and interests, creating space to explore the many facets of artist residencies. Additionally, the event is a chance for participants to connect, share perspectives, and build relationships. This evening program is free and open to all—come chat, ask questions, and connect.
Sophia Hatzikos is a Greek-American artist whose practice is rooted in embodied research through swimming, translating sensorial experiences of hydroscapes into sculpture.
Hatzikos earned a BA from Wheaton College in Massachusetts and an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at the Kranzberg Arts Foundation in St. Louis, MO, and Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR, and in group exhibitions at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Attleboro Arts Museum, Missouri State University, Charlotte Street Foundation, and Blue Sky Gallery, among others.
This program is part of Emerge, The Luminary’s professional development series designed to equip artists with practical tools, critical dialogue, and a supportive network to sustain their creative practice.
