First Thursday: Performance with Adjoa Armah
Thursday, August 6 | 7 PM

Developed during her residency at The Luminary, the performance draws on the history of Rev. John Berry Meachum's Floating Freedom School, which operated on the Mississippi River to evade Missouri laws prohibiting the education of Black people. Through the act of counting grains of sand gathered from the school's historic anchoring site, Armah reflects on Black life, language, mathematics, memory, and the possibilities of education as a space of radical imagination.

This event is free and open to the public.
