During this workshop, participants will explore the vernacular archive as a site of possibility and knowledge production. Beginning with a framework of stewardship, attendees will learn and share strategies for recordkeeping and preservation by collectively engaging a variety of materials and texts. Emphasis will be placed on working intentionally with archives through a praxis of care and affirmation. Participants are asked to be open and ready to discuss their relationship with gathering and collection. Please be mindful that this workshop was conceived as an offering for Black, queer, and other marginalized people as their histories are at a heightened risk of suppression and erasure.

Jen Everett is an artist from Southfield, Michigan currently working in Saint Louis, Missouri. She is interested in the myriad ways Black people produce and transmit knowledge. Her practice encompasses lens and time based media, installation and writing.
