This workshop, “Queering Self-Pleasure,” is hosted by sex educator Crystal D. Ellis, MPH will be serendipitously held the night before the culmination of Self Maintenance Resource Center.

Participants will journey through “A 7000-Year History of Masturbation Pride & Shame”, illuminating differing norms of sexuality, culture, and power. Understanding masturbation through a queer contemporary lens marks a physiological function that promotes bodily acceptance, therapeutic relief, and reclamation of sexual dysfunction and trauma. Hands (and tools) so often used to express partnered intimacy, are similarly perfect to give oneself loving stimulation.

Crystal D. Ellis, MPH, is a sexuality educator, cultural critic, and avid pleasure seeker dedicated to expanding the collective's capacity for pleasure. She currently provides HIV/STI testing and education to the St. Louis region with the City of St. Louis Dept. of Health, and is the founder of Crystallized Sexuality, LLC. CS uses the digital space to uplift the varied sensual and relational experiences of Black, Brown, & Indigenous people along the gender and sexual spectrum. She's also the newest member of the 2021-2022 Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis' Junior Board.

*This workshop is inclusive of trans and gender non-conforming methods of self-pleasure, and will display nude media, and is meant for adults 18 years and older.
