In a time where economics are eclipsing art's more complex functions, this simple object asks not simply how is taste formed, but who is given the privilege to articulate taste?

The spoon was released as an edition of 100, created to benefit a nonprofit, and circulates commercially. It is, in a way, unremarkable. Jenny Holzer's pithy truisms turn on this complex simplicity, how a phrase twists, how a spoon cuts through a surface revealing the boundary to be liquid. In a time where economics are eclipsing art's more complex functions, this simple object asks: Who creates a public? Not simply how is taste formed, but who is given the privilege of sight and experience to articulate taste? Do class and economics dictate more about success and access in the arts than anyone cares to admit?
