About The Luminary
The Luminary is an expansive platform for art, thought, and action. Since its inception The Luminary has been a home for exceptional art that engages the pressing issues of the present. Through an active roster of exhibitions, residencies, performances, publications and gatherings, we act as a point of convergence for diverse publics. We cultivate thoughtful platforms for exchange, support forward-moving art and ideas, and attempt to model a more equitable and interconnected art world as an institution of our time.
We support artists operating at the forefront of social change, advocating for art that makes its way out of the gallery and into the city, reimagining place, politics, and policy. Other opportunities The Luminary provides are residencies for national and international artists and curators; subsidized studio spaces and gallery rental; the Futures Fund: a re-granting initiative for artists and creatives; professional development seminars and sustained fellowships for arts and culture workers; small business incubators, such as KNOW/HOW bookshop and Black Coffee; and creative partnerships with mission-aligned organizations.
The Luminary is located on Cherokee Street in St. Louis, Missouri. The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11am–6pm. Admission is free.
